Famous Tourist Attractions of Kovalam
Samudra Beach
It is a high tide area that can be reached separately. There is a long
sea wall that you can walk on and you can see here waves crash on the
rocks below.
Shanghumugham Beach
It is popular city beach adjacent to the airport. An indoor recreation
club, children's traffic training park and a star shaped restaurant are
some of the facilities at the beach.
Vizhinjam
Village
The 18th century Cave Temple has half complete carvings of Lord Shiva.
Vizhinjam Fishing Harbour is a natural port and one the busiest Fishing
port.
Marine Aquarium
An old building with paints peeling off houses a rich treasure of
marine wealth. The underwater fauna includes clownish of Finding Nemo
fame, squirrel fish,moon wrasse, butterfly fish giants, turtles,
aggressively surgeon fish, trigger fish and sharks.
Chowara
This is yet another fishing village, 8 kms South Kovalam. This is a
never ending white sandy stretch with kites and eagles circling the area
beautifully.
Thiruvallom
It lies on the conjunction on the Killi and Karamana river, go for the
boat ride and see Parasuram Temple.
Vellayani Lake
This is one of the two freshwater lakes in Kerala. This 750 hectares
water body is a must see. As yet untouched, its beautiful, calm waters
are sight behold, especially on the moonlit nights
Veli Lagoon (Tourist Village)
Delightful waterfront park. An ideal picnic spot where the lake merges
with sea. The wading pool, gardens, exquisite sculptures, a floating
bridge and a wide range of aqua sports facilities.
Kowdiar Palace
The home of the late Maharajah Sree Chithira Thirunal Bala Rama Varma
and his family is off limits to visitors but you can have a glimpse from
the main gate. If a friendly guard is on duty, he will let you walk a
bit inside the grounds where you can get a view of the grand old
building at the end of its long drive.
Worlds Of Water
Paddle or go out to swim, of course be warned of getting
drowned......Anyways the green areas are safer to swim. The anglers
among you can hire fishing boat from fisherman for Rs. 100 an hour if
you have the confidence to manage it all alone
