The immense backdrop of the Sun Temple looks fantastic when illuminated in the evening. Konark beach is more serene than the Puri beach, which tends to get very rough. Just three kilometers away from the temple, you can either walk down or hire a bicycle or cycle-rickshaw to reach the beach. Sun Temple
The sun temple at Konark dates back to the 13th century, a master piece of Oriya style of temple architecture and is one of the very few sun temples in the country. The sun temple is built in form of a massive chariot, hauling the sun God across the heavens by the mighty of seven splendidly carved horses, standing aloft on 24 chariot wheels-intricately carved -symbolizing the time.

Only two subsidiary temples out of the 22 exist today. The Vaishnadevi
Mayadevi Temple stand to the West it. The Sun temple of Narasimhadeva is
